However, the creative brewers have now decided to fully exploit the potential of their bock beer and refine it further by maturing it in barrels.After the first version was snapped up like hot cakes by the brewers, we were fortunately able to secure a few more copies. The second version is now available, but we are still indulging in the sensual aroma of the first. The Gutenberg Bock was aged for six long months in aromatic former Calvados wooden barrels. During this time, the barrel’s own flavors enriched the profile of the bock with an intense depth and complex hints of oak, fine brandy and tangy green apples. The fine apple brandy harmonizes wonderfully with the tart spiciness of the bock and also provides an exquisite vanilla aroma.The beer specialty flows into the glass in the color of liquid caramel and smells just as good: soft toffee notes, baked apple aromas, warm Calvados notes, vanilla, wood and strong malt dominate the aroma and taste.
